4 Night Murray River Cruise
A unique way to experience the majestic Murray River is to cruise it on an historic paddle-wheeler. More than 100 years ago paddle wheelers travelled the length of the river transporting supplies to and from the river towns. Today, you can retrace their journey on a 4 night cruise aboard the Murray Princess.
Before departing Adelaide for the Murray River in the afternoon, take a wander down North Terrace. Regarded as Adelaide's cultural boulevard, it is home to South Australia’s state art gallery, museum, library and botanic gardens, which are all free to visit. Coach transfers to the river depart from the Mercure Grosvenor Hotel on North Terrace. If you have a vehicle, locked garaging facilities are available in Mannum where the cruise departs. Once you’ve settled in to your comfortable onboard accommodation, you may like to join fellow passengers in the dining room for a pre-dinner drink before your delicious supper is served. Overnight on the Murray Princess.
Daybreak is time for keen photographers to capture the light and the morning movement of wildlife. The prolific birdlife includes pelicans, blue wrens and black swans. Enjoy a leisurely morning and lunch cruising upriver towards Blanchetown. You’ll pass through one of the 13 locks that maintain the flow and water levels on the Murray River. This afternoon you’ll moor near Salter’s Station, where you’ll spend the night. As the last rays of sun fade, join a guided tour of the Burk Salter vineyard on the banks of the river and enjoy wine tasting at Burk’s cellar door. Overnight on the Murray Princess.
After breakfast, cruise upriver to picturesque Swan Reach. The town was first settled in the 1850s and was once the largest of five sheep and cattle stations in the area. The original Swan Reach homestead is now the Swan Reach Hotel where you can enjoy a wine or beer overlooking the Murray River, or join a guided walking tour and visit the Swan Reach Museum. This afternoon, cruise downriver to Sunnydale and discover the fascinating history of the Australian wool industry in the Woolshed Show. Dinner this evening is an Aussie barbeque, cooked and served in a bush setting on the banks of the river. Overnight on the Murray Princess.
After breakfast the Murray Princess cruises slowly downstream past magnificent cliffs scoured by the river over millions of years. Step back in time at the Ngaut Ngaut Aboriginal Reserve, one of Australia’s most significant archaeological sites. On a guided tour you’ll see ancient rock carvings and learn about aboriginal history in the area. In the afternoon, cruise downriver to Younghusband, where adventure seekers can take a speed boat ride. Tonight the captain and his officers host a spectacular Farewell Captain’s Buffet. Dressing up and dancing is encouraged!
After breakfast, the Murray Princess arrives in Mannum for you to disembark and return to Adelaide, either by pre-booked coach or in your own vehicle.

Our SA Expert’s Top Tip
“If you’re not ready to return to Adelaide, then why not add a Barossa Valley Tour to your cruise. The coach tour departs Mannum at the end of your river cruise and includes visits to three premium wineries and a picnic lunch in picturesque surroundings. It returns to the Mercure Grosvenor Hotel in Adelaide at around 5.30pm.”
