The perfect place to start

Whether you’re planning to explore the vineyards, wildlife, beaches, Murray River or the Outback, we suggest you start your holiday in Adelaide. Enjoy day trips from the city or pick up a rental car and explore the neighbouring regions at your own pace.

Adelaide is a gourmet paradise offering some of Australia’s best dining experiences and its warm climate is perfect for al fresco dining. Stroll down one of the bustling ‘eat streets’– Gouger, Hutt or Rundle Street – or enjoy the sights at a beachfront café. The Adelaide Central market is the perfect place to pick up supplies for your apartment stay or a picnic under the vines.

Adelaide is the ultimate in stress-free shopping. Rundle Mall has more than 600 boutiques and specialty shops set amongst elegant arcades, streets and laneways, or drop into Australia’s famous department stores, Myers and David Jones. For outlet shopping, head to Harbour Town – 15 minutes west of the city near the airport.

Most of Adelaide’s fantastic beaches are less than 30 minutes from the city centre and the Mediterranean climate means you can enjoy them practically all year round. Catch the tram to Glenelg, Adelaide’s favourite beach, and enjoy a picnic on the grass or a stroll on the jetty. The art deco suburb of Brighton Beach is right next door and nearby Henley Beach is a great place to soak up the atmosphere while eating your fish and chips. Walk 20 minutes north from the jetty and you’ll be at Grange, with its coastal dunes and popular cafés and restaurants.

Whether you want to sleep between cool sheets in a luxury hotel, snuggle in an historic inner-city cottage, or meet new friends at a caravan park, Adelaide has a wide variety of accommodation options. North Terrace and its neighbouring streets are a popular base for visitors, with accommodation to suit any budget and free trams to take you to the city’s main attractions. Nearby, North Adelaide offers a range of B&B, apartment and hotel style accommodation on the edge of the CBD. For a beach holiday, choose from a range of options in Glenelg.
